Sandpoint Girls Win Post Falls Invite, Boys Third09/01/2016
For the first time in over a decade the Sandpoint Cross Country Team started their season at the Post Falls Invite, and they started the year right where the left off, with fantastic team running and great results. The Post Falls course at Kiwanis Park is a multi-loop course on dirt trails with multiple challenging hills. The girls varsity took first out of 7 full teams with a score of 44, beating 2nd place Coeur d'Alene by 15 points. Sandpoint was led by Katherine Kaul, who placed 2nd overall (20:09) behind two time defending State Champion Katherine Ruck from Moscow. Hannah Davidson was 8th, Niah Brass 11th, Dana Beaty 13th and Rainey Woodward 14th, Sharon Rowe 16th and Farli Boden 18th to place all 7 girls in the top third of the race. In the girls JV race, Sandpoint also took first place with 25 points led by Sophomore Chloe Braedt who was third in 24:34. Mesa Keating was 4th, Paige Davidson 6th, Chloe Pierce 7th and Erin Meek 8th to put all 5 scorers in the top 8 out of 47 runners. It was a great way to start off the season.
The boys Varsity placed third out of 12 teams with Varsity runners Fin Lund-Andersen and Sloan Woodward out sick. Stepping in for Fin in the front spot was Junior Cole Dillon, who ran a smart, tactical race to place 15th place out of 83 runners in 18:14. Teammate Clay Rasmussen was right behind 16th, Reilly Wolfe in 21st, Ephriam Weisz 24th, and Riley McGinnis in 37th to round out the scoring 5. In the boys JV race, the Sandpoint team placed 2nd out of 11 teams with a team score of 68. The JV race was the largest of the day with 107 runners, and the first runner in was Peik Lund-Andersen in 6th place (19:50). Wyatt Hagen was right behind in 7th, Garrett Pierce was 14th, Dutt Rogers 15th and Jacob Jackson was in 30th for the top 5 boys scorers.
Sandpoint will run their next meet on September 10th at Farragut State Park.
