The Sandpoint Cross Country team hosted their home meet this past Saturday in a day of exciting races against 11 schools, including 5A Coeur d'alene. Last month at the Coeur d'Alene meet, Sandpoint swept all 4 races. Coeur d'Alene partially returned the favor this weekend with narrow victories in the Varsity races. Sandpoint took 2nd in both Varsity races, and 1st in the JV competitions. There were 33 individual personal records for the team as they start to fine tune for the Regional and State meets coming up at the end of October.

The girls Varsity team was once again led by Senior Hannah Davidson, with teammate Katherine Kaul sitting out one more week to recover from tendonitis. Hannah placed 2nd in the race with a 18:56, making her just the 5th girl in school history to go under 19. She was followed by Niah Brass in 6th with a 19:48, Heather Wallace 7th in 19:55, and Farli Boden in 10th with a 20:00. Those times place the girls 12th, 14th and 16th on the school Top-25 list for the 5k. Kali Scheel was 11th in 20:25, and Ciera Bailey 12th in 20:28, and Sharon Rowe 17th in 20:56, placing all girls in the top 20. The girls were second to Coeur d'Alene by a score of 27 to 32.

The boys team was also second to Coeur d'Alene by a very close margin, 26 to 30. The boys were led by Cole Dillon this week, who ran a 16:44 for 3rd place overall and moving to 12th on the Top-25 list. He was followed by Ephriam Weisz (16:53), Garrett Pierce (16:56 and now #18 All-Time), Peik Lund-Andersen (17:13), Jett Lucas (17:25), Tyler McNamee (17:58) and Dutt Rogers (18:01). The boys were without their third runner, Kieran Wilder, who should be back for the Lewiston Invite next week, but got a nice surprise from freshman Jett Lucas. Jett ran a 17:25 in his first ever 5k.
